Here at iPad accessories reviews we are big fans of well designed products and one that has caught our eye recently is the ZAGG Folio which is a case that has been designed for the iPad 2. Recently I did a post about iPad cases with keyboards and noticed that there were a lot of people out there interested in these products so I thought it might be worth doing a quick ZAGG folio review. I also intend to highlight a few more products in this market because it seems like one that is gaining more and more popularity as people start using the iPad for work as well as pleasure.
Also as a quick disclaimer I do not own this product but am simply giving you an overview to save you time doing your own extensive research.
If you’re into iPad accessories then it is hard to not have your head turned by ZAGG because they do have a knack of making really good looking products. The ZAGG Folio is not there foray into the this market as they also brought out the ZAGGmate for the iPad and the well liked Logitech Keyboard case by ZAGG for iPad 2 both of which aimed to convert the iPod into a netbook for on the move functionality.
So having already two solid products on the market ZAGG have decided there was still room for improvement and hopefully have succeeded with the ZAGG Folio.
ZAGG folio Review – Features
Added Protection
For this case the ZAGG team have gone for a more solid look giving it a tougher edge with an exterior designed out of carbon fiber. This gives it a sturdy feel that gives the impression that the case will last the course. Inside they have continued this extra protection theme by using microfiber to give even more shock absorption. This extra ruggedness does mean the case has a little more weight and bulk to your iPad 2 but I suppose if you want the peace of mind knowing the iPad is safe from harm it is price worth paying.
Increased Versatility
Along with the added protection the Folio ZAGG iPad 2 case has also been given more versatility. What this means is that you can take out the keyboard from the case and use it as a stand or if you choose use the keyboard from a new position or distance. You can even dispense with the case and use the keyboard and iPad 2 on their own together. This flexibility allows you to type in both landscape and portrait orientation and gives you more freedom to work better in different environments.
One thing I think is worth noting it that some other reviewers have mentioned that the ZAGGfolio does work best when the iPad 2 and keyboard are in the case together. This means if you want the Folio to double up as a just a iPad 2 case as well then you might be better looking elsewhere but iyou want a high quality iPad 2 case with keyboard then the ZAGG folio is a excellent choice.
Better keyboard experience
Where ZAGG have excelled in the past is the quality of their keyboards and it seems that the one that comes with the Folio is no exception. With the ZAGGfolio the keyboard has been made a little bigger so as you can imagine typing will be much easier to accomplish. They have also spaced out the keys more so you can be more accurate with your selection especially when you have to type quickly or are a little clumsy like my good self.
However it looks to me that the big advantage of the keyboard is the flexibility it provides. As I stated above the keyboard can be removed from the case and used in various modes to suit your workspace. It also means you can still use your other favourite ipad accessories while still having typing functionality.
In fact it appears that ZAGG have been so happy with the design of this keyboard that they have released it as a standalone product called the ZAGGkeys Solo. Therefore if you already have an iPad 2 case that you’re happy with and just need a keyboard then this could be the solution for you.
The ZAGGSolo retails at $69.99 where as if you buy it with the case the price is $99.99 so just depends on what exactly you need.
What you get for you money The ZAGG Folio iPad 2 case comes with keyboard, keyboard battery, USB to micro-USB charging cable, user manual.
Customer Note
When researching this ZAGG Folio review I came across some customer feedback that said there was a problem with the clasp that holds the case together and it wasn´t working properly. It looks like ZAGG are aware of the issue and is making the necessary changes but I would still look around for more customer reviews to see if the problem exists or contact ZAGG before you buy.
In Summary
In my view the ZAGGfolio is one of the better offerings in this market especially because the keyboard is so well designed and built. Your only choice really is do you need to spend the extra 30 bucks for the protective case or just opt for the keyboard. However whatever way you go I am sure you will be happy with your decision.
