Like many musicians, when the iPad came into being I was hoping they would release a iPad music stand so I could use my iPad in many ways to enhance my music. The one thing I lacked was a way in which to hold it whilst banging out a tune on my guitar. I rigged up a music stand and used Velcro to hold it in place. Well I thought it was a good idea at the time and it wasn’t, it was too top heavy and kept on falling over. I was delighted to find out that a ipad music stand has been designed and made specifically for this purpose by Griffin Technology, they say you can mount your iPad on any mic stand. Guess what it does!
It attaches to any microphone stand and its really sturdy, so I bought one and it’s just what the doctor ordered. I have had it for a couple of months now and have used it whilst practising and playing live gigs. During the last couple of weeks the amount of people that have asked me where I bought it is amazing. This stand is so versatile and although light in weight, it’s pretty robust. Its currently on sale at $29.99 so its a real bargain… I have listed below the overall features so if you ate interested keep on reading.

So whether its for recording lyrics, displaying sheet music, tabs, or whatever, your iPad may be the most useful thing to hit the studio since gaffer tape. Griffin’s Mic Stand Mount for iPad screws onto a standard microphone stand (5/8″ with 27 threads/inch for those of you playing along at home) so you can raise or lower your iPad to the perfect height. It also slips into most standard mic clips. Rubber-lined grips at the ends of the Mic Stand Mount’s four arms hold your iPad securely on all four corners without blocking the controls, dock connector or audio jack. The mount rotates and locks into either portrait or landscape view, and tilts up to 90 degrees. The grips accommodate most shell- and skin-type cases for iPad. The Mic Stand Mount for iPad: the most secure way to mount your iPad in the studio (at least until your entourage grows to include “Dude Who Holds My iPad Like a Music Stand”). NOTE: Just as you would with an expensive mic or other equipment, make sure your mic stand and boom are properly counterweighted, tightened and positioned to support the weight of your iPad. If you’re using Mic Stand Mount on a boom, we recommend aligning the boom with one of the legs of your stand to provide an extra element of stability. And mind your windmills. Right, after purchasing my stand I bought a stomp box, what a riot.
Well, that’s my birthday money spent but what a cracking product, for only $99 it’s an absolute must. Plug it in and it transforms your iPad into an all singing all dancing effects center. I can’t fault it, these guys at Griffin, they are producing some really cool products and unlike other companies, they work and are well built. They even manage to put a smile on your face after forking out your dinero.
The stomp box
With four assignable foot switches and a 1/4″ effects pedal input jack, our StompBox allows musicians to use a compatible iOS device (i.e., iPhone, iPad or iPod touch) as a portable, programmable effects board and practice rig. StompBox effectively recreates the experience of an actual pedalboard. Developed in partnership with Frontier Design Group (developers of iShred LIVE, iShred, Guitar, and other apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch), StompBox brings a new level of realism to iShred LIVE by replicating the performance-ready durability of pro-quality effects pedals. Connect StompBox to your iPad or other iOS device with a built-in 1-meter heavy-duty dock cable. StompBox gives you a bank of four professional quality user-assignable foot switches. In back, there’s an industry-standard 1/4″ mono jack to plug in a volume or expression pedal.
So with the iPad music stand and the stomp box you are all ready to start annoying the neighbors and do what you love best. Just remember you will need to buy the connector cable – NOW YOUR ROCKIN…
